Defender
Rank Insignia

The Elite-Fighters System of martial
arts has adopted insignia to represent each rank of the system. Insignia
are symbols that are designed to give meaning beyond the image that
they represent. The development of symbols follow the pattern from an
actual object - to an image of that object - finally to the symbol that
metaphorically represents the object and imparts deeper meaning to the
initiated.
The objects from which we derive symbols
for the Elite-Fighters Ranking Insignia come from the six main armor
pieces of the Roman Centurion. The Roman Centurions are considered,
by historians, as the greatest warriors that the world has known until
the modernization of warfare in the last two centuries. The Romans conquered
their enemy and then assimilated them into their government to form
the amalgamated Roman Empire. The Elite-Fighters System of Martial Arts
has taken the approach of the Roman Empire to conquer the martial art
systems and amalgamate them into the most efficient and unique martial
art in modern history.
The object representing the Defender
Rank is the shoes of the centurion, or caliga. The sole of
the caliga was thickly studded with hobnails for better footing during
combat. The insignia is symbolized as a cross section of the caliga.
You will notice that the points extending downward represent the hobnails,
or studs, to give the warrior the footing to stand in readiness in all
situations in combat. You should also notice that the insignia contains
five points, symbolizing that five other ranks are needed to have a
sure footing in combat. The Defender Rank introduces you to the Reactionary
Defensive Methods of Fighting, which stresses that you must always be
ready for combat. Readiness, therefore, is the hidden meaning of the
insignia for the Defender Rank.
