Guardsman
Rank Insignia

The Elite-Fighters System of martial
arts has adopted insignia to represent each rank of the system. Insignia
are symbols that are designed to give meaning beyond the image that
they represent. The development of symbols follow the pattern from an
actual object - to an image of that object - finally to the symbol that
metaphorically represents the object and imparts deeper meaning to the
initiated.
The objects from which we derive symbols
for the Elite-Fighters Ranking Insignia come from the six main armor
pieces of the Roman Centurion. The Roman Centurions are considered,
by historians, as the greatest warriors that the world has known until
the modernization of warfare in the last two centuries. The Romans conquered
their enemy and then assimilated them into their government to form
the amalgamated Roman Empire. The Elite-Fighters System of Martial Arts
has taken the approach of the Roman Empire to conquer the martial art
systems and amalgamate them into the most efficient and unique martial
art in modern history.
The object representing the Guardsman
Rank is the belt of the centurion, or balteus (also called
the cingulum). The balteus is a very important piece of equipment that
held the centurion together. The centurion would attach other pieces
of equipment to the balteus including his dagger and sword. The insignia
is symbolized by the belt and two straps hanging from it. The two straps
represent armed versus unarmed, close range verses long range, striking
verses grappling, etc. The Guardsman Rank introduces you to the Strategic
Offensive Methods of Fighting, Grappling, and Reactionary Defensive
Methods against all of the striking attacks. The Guardsman Rank requires
surefootedness and true balance. Truth, therefore, is the hidden meaning
of the insignia for the Guardsman Rank.
